Matilda

Posted by Katie:) April 22, 2008 at 6:20 pm · Filed under Fiction

I just finished reading Matilda. It’s one of my most favorite books I’ve ever read. It’s about a girl named Matilda who is a real genious. She could read adult books before she started first grade. The unfortunate thing is though that her parents didn’t notice and were very disrespectful to her. I’m not the kind of person who likes reading and I enjoyed reading this book most of the time. There are so many mysterious things that happen. If you need a great book to read, read this book!!!!!

Series

Posted by livian April 21, 2008 at 9:34 pm · Filed under Fiction

Ok, so I know there are sooooo many kinds of series of books. The problem I have with books is that there is usually only one, and then it is over. With series, there is always another one. So, I thought maybe, if others of you have ever read some series titles, and would like to post them, it would be fun and easy to maybe start book clubs! I was kind of also wondering how everyone felt about The Series of Unfortunate Events books, maybe we could discuss them. Like I said, I thought it would be a fun way to start some book clubs, so Happy Reading!

The Secret Life of Bees

Posted by livian April 11, 2008 at 2:40 pm · Filed under Fiction

This book is really sad, but really good at the exact same time.  The main character, Lily, has to deal with her abusive, rude father.  He blames her for everything, including Lily’s mother’s death. (There is a story to go along with that)  When Lily reaches a certain age, (I won’t tell) she runs away with Rosaleen, a family friend and plans to never return to a life she hopes to keep behind her.  This book is really good, and is AR…. SO READ IT!!!

New Books! New Books!

Posted by MrsBrosan April 7, 2008 at 11:43 am · Filed under Non-Fiction | Fiction | Biography | Sports | Announcements

I had two book orders arrive last week during PSSA testing. The first is a collection of Manga and graphic novels that are part of a mini-grant that Mr. Kaufman and I got from the Williamsport Education Foundation. There are just under 40 new books including continuations of series the library already had (Warcraft, Rebound, FullMetal Alchemist) and a new one (BabyMouse) and some how-to-draw books. We’re hoping to get a group of students interested in creating their own drawings so these books will be available for those people first and to others after that project is completed.

The other order has a bunch of new biographies of sports icons and popular musicians (to support Mrs. Hickey’s composer research project.) There are also some new novels including the National Book Award winner, Alexie Sherman’s Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian which I’ve heard a lot of good things about and can’t wait to read! There are also some That’s So Raven! books in a series that I know students have been looking for. I can’t wait to have these processed and ready to go out to students. Probably they’ll be ready by Wednesday at the latest. Come on up and check them out then!
