New Books! New Books!

I had two book orders arrive last week during PSSA testing. The first is a collection of Manga and graphic novels that are part of a mini-grant that Mr. Kaufman and I got from the Williamsport Education Foundation. There are just under 40 new books including continuations of series the library already had (Warcraft, Rebound, FullMetal Alchemist) and a new one (BabyMouse) and some how-to-draw books. We’re hoping to get a group of students interested in creating their own drawings so these books will be available for those people first and to others after that project is completed.

The other order has a bunch of new biographies of sports icons and popular musicians (to support Mrs. Hickey’s composer research project.) There are also some new novels including the National Book Award winner, Alexie Sherman’s Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian which I’ve heard a lot of good things about and can’t wait to read! There are also some That’s So Raven! books in a series that I know students have been looking for. I can’t wait to have these processed and ready to go out to students. Probably they’ll be ready by Wednesday at the latest. Come on up and check them out then!

Rosa Parks; My Story

Posted by ninah March 27, 2008 at 9:55 am · Filed under Biography

This was a very good book. It described a lot about Rosa Parks, and it even told about her life as a little girl, and before she was famous. The book tells about how the Montgomery Bus Boycott was started, and how Mrs. Parks was involved with it. I like this book, because it was very well detailed, on all the important events in Rosa Park’s life. I recommend it to those that haven’t yet read it.

I always love it when a new book order arrives because its like Christmas or a birthday!

This order had about 60 books and included titles from ALA’s Midwinter Conference where the Newberry and Printz Award winners and Honor books were announced. It also includes some titles from YALSA’s Best Books for Young Adults.

Some of the books that were included are: Inexcusable by Chris Lynch, Criss Cross, the Newberry winner, and Looking for Alaska by John Green, the Printz winner. There is also some new non-fiction, including Skateboarding Is Not a Crime, John Lennon, O (biography of Omarion), and a biography of 50 Cent.

Stop by to check them out!
